Design Trends 2017

Here are a few 2017 design trends we have observed thus far and some ideas I picked up at the International Builders Show.

BARN WOOD

It's super trendy. Mostly for interior accent walls. Saw a company producing concrete molded and colored to look like old barn wood. That could be interesting.

MODERN FARMHOUSE

We've been asked to design a few Modern Farmhouses this year. I really like the simplicity of this style. It's easy to incorporate contemporary accents with this traditional style. So glad Tuscan is in the rear view mirror. Contemporary is still very hot and will remain so for the next decade.

COLOR TINTED STAINLESS STEEL APPLIANCES

Seeing different shades of grey and bronze on Appliances.

LED LIGHTING

Apparently everything looks better with the incorporation of multi-colored LED lighting. LED lighting isn't a new idea but if your hip with the times, everything in your home should have an option of blue, purple, red, or green. Fireplaces, Appliances, Cabinets, Railings, etc..

PHONE CONTROLS EVERYTHING

It is now expected that everything in your home is controllable with your phone. I even saw an app that monitors your sump pump and tracks usage data. Ask me more about this..

DINING ROOMS ARE HISTORY

We knew this was coming but I think the Dining Room idea is officially gone. We design a transitional space that can be used for Eating, 2nd Study, Grand Piano, or Living Space. Butlers Pantries are no longer needed.

HEAT RECOVERY VENTILATORS

Prices have dropped on this upgrade and look for this to be standard equipment. Offers additional air filtration and makes financial sense. Be green where it makes sense financially.

ZONED HEATING AND COOLING ZONES

Expectations for consistent comfort thru-out the home are rising. Look for more homes to include Zoned Heating and Cooling.

MUD ROOMS

This room is becoming larger and larger each year. People want their Mud Rooms to help organize and hide the clutter.

ROOF TOP PATIOS

People want Roof Top Patios on all style of homes. It is difficult to design this into traditional styles. Were seeing people trade off Basement Finish for Third Floor Entertainment spaces.
